How many horsepower with AC Dodd ?

Belinno, not much HP, engine is (normally) worn, still ok but no more than 59 hp. For a "fresh" engine with the same spec as mine (all original with only K&N cone filters and a re-worked distributor by Dodd) you can expect from 65 to 68 hp.

We run on the dyno every year, to setup carbs and distributor and for a general fine tuning of the car, so I know well how much power a certain engine can do, when I ear at the meeting "I have 90 hp" for an engine only with some mods I laugh everytime in my mind.

Here the reprofiling "on the go" that Dodd is able to do, he's a sort of magician of Mini and SU.

But now you, and we, know the good horsepower for a stock engine. My engine is stock, only KN and exhaust LCB + Sportex. My distributor was rebuilt by H&H ignition with genuine specifications. So, let's go for 60HP !!

But it's engine horsepower, or it's at the wheels?

59hp (corrected) at the flywheel, transmission absorbs 9hp, it will be a point I would revise and correct when I'll rebuild the engine, if is possible to loose less power in the transmission.

So, for these experience I'm very sceptic when I ear "I have 90hp on my engine" from someone.

The powerful engine we tested have 92 hp but not much fun to drive it, another Inno 1300 have 80hp, but full of torque and power from the low rpm, that will be my goal: 80hp, a lot of torque and a good compromise in duty.

Another curious thing, if you wanna keep the performance you have to re-do valve seats every year....

un moteur inno avec un kent 286
une culasse travaillée admission,échappement+rabotage de 0.40
aiguilles et ressort plus riche pour double h2
rampe culbuteur haute levé 1.5
bloc en +0.20
équilibrage des bielles et volant moteur
volant moteur light
pont 3.44
pompe huile gros débit
sorti collecteur maniflow+ligne direct+peco central
allumeur aldon
en admettant que cette configuration soit cohérente le but étant de pouvoir l'utilisé sur route (mise à part le fait que la plage utilisation du kent 286 qui commence à 2000rpm,paramètre sans doute à corriger)
à moins que l'un d'entre nous est expérimenté cette version et qu'il puisse nous donner ses impressions

Personally I like more a Swiftune SW 05 cammes than a 286, especially on a Inno, where power and torque at low revs are a "must".
This is the graphic of the 80hp Inno, A LOT of torque! It is a engine full of fun to drive it.


For you specifications I think is realistic about 75 hp.
A lot depends on fine tuning, we ran on dyno a freshly rebuilt Rover Cooper, with a difference before and after tuning of 9hp!!!!!!

This is the 1986 Bosch analyzer for fine tuning that I've acquired.
Very well built and strong, it is perfect. It is in the garage near Tecnotest 138E timing light.

il n'y a pas 50 solutions pour augmenter les performances :
- améliorer le remplissage

pour cela , tu as besoin :
d'augmenter la cylindrée (en athmo)
changer l'aac pour avoir des levées + importantes
améliorer le flux dans la culasse et les collecteurs

le reste , c'est du réglage et de la fiabilisation

avec des doubles HS2 , il ne faut pas s'attendre à des miracles , 80cv étant le max envisageable
ton 286 demandera surement + de 0.4 de rectif culasse , ça se calcule , sinon t'aura un poumon
avec un 1293 et une belle culasse , le 286 te donnerait de meilleurs résultats en HIF44 , ou mieux , en double H4 pour le look
pour ce qui est des chiffres , 90 -100 chevaux seraient envisageables, mais ça dégringole vite si tu garde ton allumeur d'origine et un taux de compression insuffisant , tu tombe vite à 70 cv

pour ce qui est des chiffres annoncés sur banc , chaque banc n'étant pas étalonné de la meme maniere , seule une comparaison entre 2 moteurs sur un même banc est fiable , les chiffres , ce sont des chiffres
et tu sera peut être déçu de ton moteur car un 286 ça ne crache pas grand chose en dessous de 2500 tr , et les chevaux sont à + de 6000 tr , autant dire que c'est pas pour aller faire ses courses , mais c'est super en arsouille

un SW5 , à mon sens , c'est pour une voiture de tous les jours , c'est plein de couple , mais ça ne prend pas de tours (max 6000), un peu frustrant mais super agréable

pour moi :

l'aldon devra etre rouge , le jaune ne suffira pas
les HS2 ne seront pas suffisants

mais au fait , quel usage destine tu à ta voiture ?
parce qu'avec un peco single box central , c'est boules quiess indispensables ....

To reach 100cv on Mini engine you need a lot of mods including a cammes that is not usable on the road, because you have not idle, the minimum RPM is 2500 to get moving the car.

Do not trust in the easy HP, A series is greedy.
Most important is a reliable engine with a lot of torque.

je sors un peu + de 100 cv à 6200 tr et 140 Nm de couple (mesurés) d'un 1330 avec culasse MED 35/29 , HIF44 , aac RE13OT (équivalent d'un 286) , allumeur modifié et ligne RC40 , RV 10.5/1

sa config est similaire, et je peux t'assurer que ça n'a rien à voir avec un poumon de 60cv d'origine

je te sens sceptique steezo , pour t'en convaicre , voici le moteur en question en version "compressé " , et avec un pont long.......

c'est ce qu'on croit quand on sait pas régler un moteur .....
l'assembler avec de belles pièces c'est bien , mais passer 30 heures à l'optimiser peu de gens le font , c'est pourtant là que sont les chevaux
